India’s dream of winning the 2023 ODI World Cup title was shattered on Sunday (November 19) in Ahmedabad when Australia defeated the Rohit Sharma-led side in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium by six wickets. Pat Cummins’ men bowled out India for 240 runs after being invited to bat first and then chased down the target in 43 runs for the loss of four wickets. For the Men in Yellow, opening batsman Travis Head top-scored by making 137 runs. During his stay at the crease, he scored 15 fours and four sixes and added 192 runs for the fourth wicket with Marnus Labuschagne.
By registering a famous win over world No. 1 India in ODI, Australia became ODI World Cup champions for the sixth time in history. This was the second time in 13 editions that the Men in Yellow had managed to win the title on Indian soil.
India reached the final after winning 10 matches in a row, but on the night when it mattered most, the team fell short. The 2023 ODI World Cup has been a memorable one for many Indian players, such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, KL KL, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, among others. But the only thing missing is the cup.
In the 2023 World Cup, Kohli scored a total of 765 runs in 11 matches to finish as the top run scorer. Thanks to his impressive display with the bat, the 35-year-old won the Player of the Tournament award. But the former Indian captain was so sad that he just received the trophy and ignored the post-match interview.
The video of Heartbroken Kohli receiving the award and skipping the interview is now going viral on the internet.
In the 2023 ODI World Cup, Kohli scored three centuries and six fifties. His total of 765 runs is the world record for most runs scored in a single edition of the ODI World Cup by any player in the history of the tournament.
